Photo in Spin Magazine **False alarm**

**OK, I posted this yesterday and have to revise it. I went to pick up a hard copy of the mag, and my photos aren't in it. ONLY in the online copy. :( **

Covering the Coachella Festival for Spin.com was one of my favorite assignments ever. Lots of cool bands and fun experiences. Today I found out that one of my photos from that weekend got published in the magazine! (I did not shoot the cover) I haven't even seen it yet in person, but it appears to be a full 2-page large color photo. It's a photo of The Cure. Really, just the guitarist, and huge plume of smoke. But it was neat. Here it is, courtesy of Spin.com:

I didn't get a lot of time for any sort of touch up on the Coachella photos. It was all in the moment, a rush to upload content on line... not a lot of time for any editing. That said, had I known the photo was going to show up in the mag, I would have spent some time cleaning it up. But what can you do? Its in there. My name is on it. (And actually also on a photo of Leonard Cohen... which I did not take.)

Fall Out Boy @ Mesa Amp

I have to say... I like bands that put on a show. Do something different, ya know? Fall Out Boy brought a lot of cool lights and moving video screens... wore themed outfits... and put on a damn good show. The other thing I have to say is Mesa Amphitheater is an awesome venue! Not only for concert goers... but photographers alike.

The stage is large and WHITE... so there is naturally more 'light' to work with. Things are easier to see and work with. Fall Out Boy brought a lot of lights of their own. Moving lights... LEDs... video screens... etc... it was a lot of fun to shoot. I would have to say, it got better light-wise as the night went on... I wish I could have been up front for that.

This was another gig I got to cover for Spin Magazine... and it proved to be a lot of fun. Check out fellow New Times-er Niki D'Andrea's review with some of my pics on Spin.com.

Photo in Spin Magazine

I have a photo in the current issue of Spin magazine. (January) It's a photo of Metallica advertising the best live photos of the year on Spin.com. Read below for the back story.

So back in October I was asked to cover the Metallica tour kick off for Spin.com. This was a ridiculously huge honor for me! (Click here to link to the story) Since I didn't have this blog back then, I didn't post any photos...but I've attached a few for today. The show was amazing! Even if you're not the biggest Metallica fan, you can still enjoy the show and the time put into it. It was "in the round", on a square stage, and it was just an awesome show! Lasers, lights beaming out of giant coffins hanging over the stage, pyro, and obviously a great band. It was a really welcome surprise from the sort of doldrum you can get stuck with.

The show was at Glendale Arena, and it was an amazing experience. From a photogs point of view, it was great. Well, the first song was only lit with lasers. :) So that was hard to shoot, but after that, it became progressively easier to shoot. By the end of the 3rd song, there was quite a lot of light to play with. Time to craft your shot. My only qualm was that Kirk Hammett was a little elusive. But from a show stand point...he was working his ass off playing to everyone in the arena. The photo I got of Lars with his tongue out is one of my favorites of all my photos.
One of my favorite shoots, to be sure.
